| Archer is located just west of the center of the state in North Central Florida. Surrounding us is some of the most beautiful land in all of Florida. When most non residents think of Florida, they think of sun, beaches, and palm trees. Well there is a lot more of our beautiful state than white sandy beaches. Though they are great, and we are only a short drive to one of the most famous beaches in the world, Daytona Beach. Here is a few other things that Archer offers, and most are less than a 30 minute drive from the city limits. Springs, springs, and more springs. Want to cool off on a hot summer day? Canoe or kayak in crystal clear wandering rivers? Cave dive in the crystal clear aquifer that few people have ever seen? Within just minutes from your front door you can do all these things and more. Did anyone say FISHING? You are 30 minutes from floating your boat in Orange Lake, or also 30 minutes from the beautiful Wacasassa River that flows into the Gulf of Mexico. Now for an all day excursion, why not try Cedar Key Florida, where you can fish, boat, ski or jet ski to your hearts content. Then when your just to tired to do anything else, dine in one of the fine restaurants that sit right on the Gulf of Mexico. Afterwards you can browse the many shops and art galleries before your short ride back home. Some of the most beautiful canoe trips in the state of Florida are also just minutes from town. Santa Fe River, right up 41, has day trips that range from 1 1/2 hrs to all day and even overnight camping on the river's banks. Along your canoe/kayak adventure you can stop and swim in one of several crystal clear springs that flow into the Santa Fe. Truly one of the most beautiful adventures you will ever take. Now, travel just a few miles south to the Silver River. There you can either canoe/kayak or boat on one of the most beautiful, pristine rivers in the United States. Untouched natural beauty that I could never describe. It's a short river, only a few miles long that starts in the center of Silver Springs Nature Park. You can actually paddle or boat right to the center of the park and peer down into the main spring of the river. Tarzan was filmed on the Silver River in the 1920's and you can still see a monkey or two in the trees on your adventure. There are many places to stop and take a dip to cool on a warm summer's day. Besides all of our water adventures, you have miles of horse trails in the Goethe State Forest. North Central Florida has become a mecca of horse farms and riding trails. Not to forget hunting, go west and you will find some of the best game that the US has to offer. From white tail deer to wild turkey to wild boar, they are in abundance and again just minutes from your driveway. So, what's your favorite? Swimming, fishing, boating, diving, canoe/kayaking? Horseback riding, hunting, rodeos, or even sky diving, again all just minutes from your door. Take a closer look at Archer, we think you will like it here. We sure do! |
Archer's Recreation Department had a very successful Summer Camp program this past summer. We are looking forward to providing this service again for the upcoming summer '08. The major difference will be that we will be charging a fee for participation this next summer. What those fees will be has yet to be determined. Currently we are in the middle of Fall Soccer and Football season. Our 13 and under football team and our 8 and under soccer team are both undefeated! Our 10 and under football team and our 6 and under soccer team are both making great strides. We also have Cheerleaders this season and we are looking forward to continuing this next football season. We are looking for Basketball coaches for the upcoming season. The season begins in January, but planning and practice should begin before that. Coaching is a wonderful opportunity to make the difference in the life of a child, please consider joining us. In the spring we will be offering Baseball, Tee-Ball, and Spring Soccer. Our ball teams had a great season last spring and we are looking forward to another awesome year this spring. We are hoping to add both more ball teams and soccer teams this year. If you would like to coach a team and or have a child who would alike to participate please contact us. Archer has a number of wonderful parks. There is a tot-lot on the Dora Robinson basketball park in the Holly Hills neighborhood. On Archer Road beside the Fire Station and Public Works Barn we have Maddox Park. Maddox Park offers an open field, pavilion, walking track, and a par course. The Sports Complex is located on 137th Lane and 174th Street. This park is home to the Wilson Robinson Memorial Pavilion, two baseball fields, the football field, basketball, tennis, and racquetball courts, and a play ground, as well as our little red caboose concessions stand. There is also the old fire station park. This park currently has a nice field, the old fire station recreation center, and is the site of the old gym project. The old gym is being renovated and will become Archer Community Center. We are very excited about the possibilities this facility will provide us. The property has a wonderful plan for future development and we will be working toward providing more opportunities her for our community. Recently we hosted Family Fun Night movies at the old Fire station and will be offering these again in the spring. The Parks and Recreation Directors office is located in the Recreational Center, to make an appointment or reach the Recreational Director, call: 352-495-4188 ask for Kristy Caudron. |
| The Archer Fire station is located at 17128 SW Archer Road, approximately 3/4 of a mile west of the stop light in Archer, Florida. The living quarters at the fire station are approximately 3,000 square feet and provides the same type of accommodations you might find in your own home, including a full kitchen, dining room, day rooms, an office, and a bunk room. The station also houses an Alachua County Sheriff's Office sub-station office that allows deputies to complete paperwork and meet with the citizens of Archer when needed. Larger than the living quarters, the station apparatus bay is approximately 5,000 square feet and includes two front line emergency apparatus. The first one is a class "A" fire engine while the second is a brush truck. The fire engine is primarily used for EMS incidents, including structure fires, vehicle fires, hazardous materials incidents and fire alarms. The fire engine is most commonly seen by the public because of the carious types of calls it responds to, while the brush truck is predominately used for forest fires or areas that our fire engine cannot access making it less visible to our citizens. The fire station is currently staffed with six Alachua County Fire/Rescue employees who provide fire and emergency response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the citizens of Archer and the surrounding parts of Alachua County. Additionally, the crews provide Public Education and Fire Prevention material to the citizens of Archer and Alachua County. If you have any questions about fire or emergency services please give us a call at 352-495-2333. |
| ARCHER COMMUNITY CENTER The Old Archer High School Gymnasium will become the Archer Community Center. It is the biggest project undertaken by the City in recent years. The old gymnasium was built under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in 1936. It was an addition to the old Archer High School which was built in 1917. Many of the local residents played basket ball, performed plays and other activities in the gymnasium. The City purchased the property in 1974. The Archer Community Recreation Development Committee started fund raising in 2003 and the City received the Historic Preservation Special Category Grant in 2005 to restore the building. These funds along with other donations allow the City to start phase 1 of the project. The Recreation Development Committee continues to raise funds to restore and rehabilitate the Gymnasium. The building will be used as a community center and promises to provide broad educational, social and civic opportunities for the entire community. We look forward to making this facility usable again and welcome our citizens and friends to join us in making this dream a reality. To find out how you can help follow this link. CONTRIBUTE |

ARCHER CHURCHES In this small community we are blessed with a number of small churches of almost every denomination and faith. Small churches have a unique ministry in this community. They have far more to offer than what has been traditionally thought of in ministering to their membership- more than the required baptism to burial services. They offer the incarnation of the living presence of God in real social relationships. The primary quality of these small churches is to offer family-like connections, for God did not create human beings to live alone. Each of us needs a place - a place where we are seen and known and valued and that is found in the worship services of the Archer Community Churches. The Archer Ministerial Alliance invites you to attend one of the following churches. | Archer is the home of the Santa Fe Community College Davis Center, one of four satellite campuses established by Gainesville's Santa Fe Community College. The satellites ring Gainesville in order to provide college access for regions beyond the city. Archer's SFCC Davis Center, located on Archer Road, offers a full-range of first year college courses, as well as college preparatory courses. Professors from the main campus teach at the Davis Center in both day and evening classes. Additionally, the Center provides free GED classes as well as Community Education classes from painting to mystery shopping. A thriving dual enrollment program lets high school students attend college and high school simultaneously, thus becoming acclimated to college life while getting a head start on two year degrees or transfers to four year institutions. Opened in August 2003, the SFCC Davis Center was made possible through the generosity of the Ron and Norita Davis family and by scores of donations from the people of the Archer community who saw the need for an accessible institution of higher learning in this region. On the drawing boards is a second building for a Veterinary Technology program in conjunction with the University of Florida. |
